CANON AT CAMERIMAGE 2015
Sunday November 15th, 2015
MONDAY 16th Nov
Canon EOS C300 Workshops led by Sturla Brandth Grøvlen, DFF
11:30, Workshops Center – University of Economy, Building M
The workshop presenting how to make a movie in one take, by Sturla Brandth Grovlen, DOP of Victoria, will be held at Camerimage 2015. The movie was shot in a single 140-minute take, using Canon EOS C300. An experiment that resulted in profound images and irresistible rhythm. During the workshop our guest will analyze the selected scenes from Victoria and recreate one of them to present the lighting techniques.
“Victoria is an interesting film for cinematography because of the one-take. It was a technical and artistic challenge quite unique from any other film I have worked on. But it was also such an intuitive and different process, both in preproduction and shooting. Since the actors were improvising, the staging of every scene was open and would always change from each time we did it. This meant I had to be alert towards the actors and could never anticipate actions. We tried to avoid planning the camera to reduce the chances of making “mistakes”. If I had planned a move and the actors behaved differently or circumstances changed, I would probably get confused and frustrated. So I tried to be ready for anything.” - Sturla Brandth Grøvlen
