In Camouflage, Krzysztof Zanussi brings to perfection his model of intellectual cinema, based not so much on the plot as on the conflict of attitudes and ideas. During a linguistics camp, a confrontation takes place between a young academic and an older, cynical lecturer. The natural surroundings, the linguistic papers on relativism in language and, last but not least, the behaviour of the gathered people, become a meaningful background for the characters’ debate. Zanussi has managed here to masterfully combine philosophical issues with the realism of depiction.
