We pride ourselves in the fact that each year for eight EnergaCAMERIMAGE November days Toruń becomes one of the capitals of world cinema, an inclusive platform for discussion, respect and self-awareness that stretches way beyond all natural and geopolitical borders. The Festival is indeed dedicated principally to filmmakers and storytellers who creatively use the medium’s visual language to provoke emotional and cerebral responses, but we also try to give voice to painters, photographers and other artists as well as cultural activists who share their perspectives on promoting culture locally, regionally and internationally. This is why we are excited that Bill Kramer, the CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and one of the leaders in establishing the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in September 2021, will visit us this November to acquaint himself with what EnergaCAMERIMAGE has to offer and hold a special seminar to address the often-neglected yet ever-urgent issue of creating new cultural centres to promote the benefits of the multidisciplinary world of art.
The role of these institutions is both to encourage people to experience art in many ways as well as to promote cultural activities as stimulating means of spending free time. We live in an increasingly competitive world where time has become the most important currency, thus well-structured multifunctional cultural centres seem to be the best way to compete for people’s time and attention. As you probably heard, we are on our way to bring the long-gestating project of the European Film Center CAMERIMAGE to life in Toruń, a dream-come-true for everyone involved in organizing EnergaCAMERIMAGE. It will be precisely one of these cultural institutions, boasting features like: a huge auditorium/screening hall with the capacity of 1500 seats; equally impressive exhibition space dedicated to audiovisual arts & crafts; a spacious market hall; an art-house repertory cinema with three screening rooms; a multifaceted educational centre; and a technologically advanced film studio.
Bill Kramer’s visit is a continuation of the Academy’s presence at EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival. In the previous years we hosted former Academy leadership and held seminars on such matters as the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES). What’s more, both the documentary and student sections at EnergaCAMERIMAGE serve as the ACADEMY AWARD® qualifying programs.
See you in Toruń during the Bill Kramer seminar!
