Warsaw during World War II. Władysław Szpilman, an outstanding composer and pianist, escapes from the ghetto, having miraculously survived its liquidation, and after the fall of the Warsaw Uprising, he hides for weeks in the ruins of the abandoned and completely destroyed Polish capital. An unexpected friendship with a German officer helps him survive the harshest period.
