CAMERIMAGE, the world’s largest festival dedicated to the art of cinematography, is introducing a new title partner. In the coming years, the event will take place under the name ToruńCAMERIMAGE, following a decision adopted by the City Council of the Festival’s host city.

The festival was founded in Toruń 35 years ago. The combination of both names formally confirms the deepening cooperation and expanding partnership between the Tumult Foundation and the city of Copernicus. It is here that the festival’s permanent home - the European Film Centre CAMERIMAGE - is currently being built.

The world’s leading film events are strongly identified with their host cities. This is the case with Cannes, Berlin, Venice, London, and Toronto. By joining this distinguished group, Toruń reinforces its international cultural standing.

“It was here that I conceived the idea of CAMERIMAGE as an event honoring the often underappreciated creators of cinematic images - cinematographers,” says Marek Żydowicz, Founder and Director of ToruńCAMERIMAGE. “New name will strengthen the global recognition of both the Festival and the city as a place of modern artistic dialogue and visual communication technologies, as well as a strong center for film, art, and entertainment.”

The expanded partnership forms part of a broader cultural development strategy for Toruń - a city attractive to young people seeking their future in the creative industries. Each edition of the Festival attracts not only world-renowned filmmakers, hundreds of students from art schools across all continents, and creators of moving-image technologies, but also delivers tangible economic benefits, increasing activity in the hospitality, gastronomy, transportation, and service sectors.

Toruń, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has for centuries been a place of groundbreaking ideas and intellectual courage. The legacy of the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus - a symbol of scientific revolution and intellectual boldness - continues today by inspiring exploration of the future of the audiovisual industry.

The ToruńCAMERIMAGE Film Festival acts as a catalyst for the development of a local film ecosystem, attracting leading professionals from across the industry, including cinematographers, directors, producers, and global leaders of the audiovisual sector. The name change symbolically connects the city’s historical identity with global contemporary culture and the dynamic evolution of visual storytelling.

A key element of this partnership is the European Film Centre CAMERIMAGE currently under construction in Toruń. Unique on a European scale, the project is intended not only to become the Festival’s permanent home but also a major cultural hub for this part of the continent.

The 34th edition of the International Film Festival ToruńCAMERIMAGE will take place on November 7–14, 2026, in Toruń, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland.
