We are delighted to announce that Robbie Ryan BSC ISC will be the first-ever recipient of the prestigious 2025 THR Visionary in Cinematography Award, newly introduced by The Hollywood Reporter and to be presented at this year’s EnergaCAMERIMAGE Festival. Ryan is an outstanding cinematographer, celebrated for his ability to create evocative, emotionally charged imagery that combines naturalism with striking visual artistry. His style is characterized by authenticity, an intuitive approach to light, and a unique way of capturing human emotions.

Robbie Ryan is one of the most recognized cinematographers of recent years. His body of work includes such films as American Honey (dir. Andrea Arnold), Philomena (dir. Stephen Frears), I, Daniel Blake (dir. Ken Loach), Marriage Story (dir. Noah Baumbach), C’mon C’mon (dir. Mike Mills), as well as EnergaCAMERIMAGE Audience Award winner The Favourite (dir. Yorgos Lanthimos), and Poor Things (dir. Yorgos Lanthimos) - both earning Ryan Academy Award nominations and widespread critical acclaim.

Robbie Ryan has been a frequent guest at EnergaCAMERIMAGE and is regarded as one of the festival’s closest friends, regularly presenting his new projects in Toruń. Over the years, he has been recognized multiple times at the festival, receiving the Bronze Frog for Poor Things in 2023, both the Audience Award for Best Film and the Golden Frog for C’mon C’mon in 2021, and the Bronze Frog for Best Cinematography for Wuthering Heights in 2011. He also earned the Best Cinematography Award for the music video Iron Sky by Paolo Nutini, directed by Daniel Wolfe.

The presentation of the 2025 THR Visionary in Cinematography Award to Robbie Ryan is a tribute to his outstanding contribution to the art of cinematography and his lasting influence on contemporary cinema. The event will take place on November 15, 2025, during the Opening Ceremony of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Festival in Toruń, Poland
