Prater

The film tells the story of the eponymous amusement park, taking the viewer on an emotional journey to Vienna, which through its enchanting images becomes a little Venice with its canals, the Rialto Bridge, the Doge’s Palace and the towering Riesenrad, the legendary Ferris wheel that offers a view of the impressive city skyline. This cinematic portrayal of the world’s oldest amusement park reveals the secrets of the technological evolution of its component rides, combining the history of amusement parks with the story of people who see these places not only as a source of entertainment but also as a catalyst for their memories, and often as the centre of their lives. The colourful character of the Prater is illustrated with texts by Elfriede Jelinek, Josef von Sternberg, Erich Kästner and Elias Canetti.
