American cinematographer, born in 1935 in Wellesley. Nominated for the Academy Award for The Fugitive directed by Andrew Davis. He has collaborated with Martin Scorsese on The Last Waltz and Raging Bull. In 2003, American Society of Cinematographers recognized him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Chapman has also worked as an actor and director. Michael Chapman has attended the Camerimage Festival five times already. In 2004, he chaired the Student Etudes Competition jury, and in 2006 he was a member of the Main Competition jury. In 2008 and 2010, he also evaluated the films selected for the Documentary Films Competition. In 2016 he was distinguished with the Camerimage Lifetime Achievement Award.
