A spellbinding story about the Japanese region of Echigo, where the snow cover persists for most of the year. In order to capture the specificity of the everyday life of its inhabitants, accustomed to these harsh weather conditions, the director takes us on a symbolic journey through time in the company of two kabuki actors who follow in the footsteps of Bokushi Suzuki, the author of the famous 19thcentury poem “Snow Country Tales”. The three elements that form the narrative axis of the film, namely kabuki theatre, poetry, and the reality of the snowy landscape, are connected by the subtle music of Yumiko Tanaka, who puts the viewer in the nostalgic mood of this very moving documentary.
