Considered the best film in the history of Ukrainian cinema, it tells the tragic love story of Hutsul Romeo and Juliet, Ivan and Marichka, and introduces us to the world of Transcarpathia, a region that is unexplored and unknown to most people. This very difficult material fell into the hands of Parajanov, who brought to his film a special reverence. He introduced the Hutsuls to the world, and they in turn introduced him to the world as an exceptional cinema artist.
