How to master large-format digital capture
with cinematographer James Laxton
American cinematographer James Laxton’s work on “Moonlight” won him a number of accolades in 2017, including the Independent Spirit Award and an Academy Award nomination. “If Beale Street Could Talk” (captured on ALEXA 65 with Prime DNA lenses) – Laxton’s most recent collaboration with director Barry Jenkins – is already poised to be an Academy Awards frontrunner in 2019.
A veteran of large-format digital capture, Laxton will impart his experience and knowledge of translating the script into powerful imagery. By composing specific shots on the ALEXA LF and Signature Primes, Laxton will light, frame, and compose various scenes and explain his techniques and motivation. ARRI LED lighting fixtures will also play a role in creating appropriate day and night scenes for this exclusive training.
Through this first-hand tutorial, participants will gain practical insight into the world of large-format image composition.
