RED SEMINAR: PUSHING COLOR ON NOW APOCALYPSE WITH CINEMATOGRAPHER SANDRA VALDE-HANSEN
Thursday November 29th, 2018
At the 2018 EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film Festival, Cinematographer, Sandra Valde-Hansen explored the world she created with indie darling, Gregg Araki for his upcoming Starz series, NOW APOCALYPSE executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. NOW APOCALYPSE tells the story of twenty-somethings “exploring identity, sexuality and artistry, while navigating the strange and often times bewildering city of Los Angeles.” Inspired by high gloss fashion photography and Gregg’s penchant for super saturated pop colors, NOW APOCALYPSE has a visual world entirely of its own. At the seminar, Valde-Hansen dove deep into her creation of this world. She shared how she used the very versatile RED MONSTRO 8K VV sensor to create the images in a fast-paced working environment with a demand for high resolution content. She discussed how IPP2 workflow and LUT creation with her colorist, helped her push the look of the show. She also shared a glimpse into the thought process and planning a cinematographer goes through to create such a specific look and visual world from pre-production all the way to final color.
