Polish Films Competition

Polish Films Competition has been held at the Camerimage Festival since 2006. The main idea of the Competition was to present the best achievements of the polish cinema to the international jury and audience each year. The important rule is that only a foreign artist might be asked to be a jury member. We have adopted this principle as the first Polish festival, and it allows universal evaluation criteria, free of local contexts and audience preferences. The films awarded annually within our competition are examples of original cinema and interesting creative strategies. These films are set in Polish culture and at the same time can appeal to an international audience in an universal way.

For the Polish filmmakers the Competition is a great opportunity to confront their artistic ideas with the opinion of internationally acclaimed critics and artist and to become known among the foreign audience, and to become a part of the international film production and distribution. Among the jury members there was many eminent filmmakers so far, such as Mark Rydell, Dick Pope, Jaromir Sofr, Don McAlpine, Albert Hughes, Joel Schumacher, Michael Seresin, Stephen Lighthill, Alan Heim, Robbie Greenberg, Wolfgang Treu, and many others.

The Award for the Best Polish Film is usually presented to both director and cinematographer. The list of the winners includes Joanna and Krzysztof Krauze and Wojciech Staroń for "Saviour Square", Andrzej Jakimowski and Adam Bajerski for "Tricks", Kasia Adamik and Jacek Petrycki for "The Offsiders", Xawery Żuławski and Marina Prokop for "Snow White and Russian Red", Jan Kidawa-Błoński and Piotr Wojtowicz for "Little Rose", Jan Komasa and Radosław Ładczuk for "Suicide room", Jan Jakub Kolski and Michał Pakulski for "To Kill a Beaver" and Bodo Kox and Arkadiusz Tomiak for "The Girl from a Wardrobe"
