PROJECT "WAYS OF FREEDOM" AT CAMERIMAGE

The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography CAMERIMAGE is an event where many discussions are held, not only about the future of cinema, but also on its glorious past. You already know that during 22nd edition of the Festival you will have the golden opportunity to watch the films of great cinematographers Jerzy Lipman (more information HERE) and John Alcott (more information HERE). You also know that we will host a retrospective of as much as 11 films of the legendary duo Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (more information HERE). With great pleasure we also invite you to a screening of Ryszard Bugajski'sInterrogation, which will take place as a part of WAYS OF FREEDOM project, organized by Fundacja Kino Polska on the 25th anniversary of democratic Poland. The screening will be followed by Q&A with Ryszard Bugajski.

Interrogation was completed the day before Martial law was introduced. It was banned from public viewing, so its official premiere was not until 1989. The film, inspired by Soviet trials in the 1950s, shows a harsh view of Stalinism and exposes the state of terror.

"Interrogation was my personal manifesto. I presented my attitude towards the reality that surrounded me for the most part of my life. A reality that was so very different from what I needed and what I imagined it should be. (...) My film is a manifesto of a man who wants to be free, regardless of the price he has to pay. I think this film could have been made elsewhere than Poland. People fight for personal freedom everywhere, although it’s not as drastic in democratic countries."

Ryszard Bugajski
