Manoel de Oliveira, distinguished Portuguese director, died on April 2nd 2015 at the age of 107. He was a legend of the European cinema, with a truly impressive filmography and an exceptionally prolific career. His latest film, „O Velho do Restelo” had its premiere at the Venice IFF in 2014. Manoel de Oliveira gained international recognition with such films as „A Talking Picture”, „The Convent”, „The Letter” or „Voyage to the Beginning of the World”. His achievements have brought him many prestigious awards, including honours at Cannes or Venice film festivals.
Manoel de Oliveira attended the Camerimage festival in 2004, when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award To The Director With Special Visual Sensitivity. His death is a great loss for the European cinema and the entire Camerimage community.
